• How does Asset Manager identify all the software installed in my environment?
  • Asset Manager looks at the Add/Remove programs through WMI and a hard drive scan and matches it against a Software DNA Database with over 200,000. applications to identify software on your network. Asset Manager can automatically identify over 85% of the software found with no manual intervention.


• What about tracking license and license usage on my VMware or Citrix environments?
  • Asset Manager can track licenses in physical environments and VMWare ESX virtual servers. An optional module is available for Citrix XenApp.


• What operating systems does the client support? What operating systems does the server require?

• How long does it take to set up? Does it require me to install software on my desktops?
  • Setup takes only a few minutes using the Asset Manager installation wizard. A small 200 KB agent that collects data and transfers it to the Asset Manager system is required to run on the target PC’s. The agent uses approximately 7-8 MB of RAM. You can optionally choose to run this agent remotely on the Asset Manager server, eliminating the requirement to deploy and agent to each PC.


• Do I have to add every user/object in my Active Directory to Asset Manager?
  • No. Asset Manager integrates with Active Directory and not only imports the users but also the complete OU structure and all the standard information fields.


• How should Asset Manager connect to the SQL Server?
  • During setup you can choose between 2 options which is Windows Integrated Authentication or SQL Authentication. It is recommended to use SQL Server Authentication. If you use Windows Authentication, then all the Asset Manager users must have privileges to access the database server.


• How is Asset Manager different from Microsoft SCCM or Altiris? Do I have to install another agent if I have SCCM or Altiris already implemented?
